Basketry with Harriet Goodall

Sunday November 21st, 9:00am - 4:30pm

$305.00 Includes: Class, Materials, Morning Tea and Lunch

Harriet is one of Australia’s best-known fibre sculptors and teachers of basketry techniques. She has led regular workshops in Australia and internationally for more than a decade. Working full-time out of her studio near Robertson, NSW she makes fibre sculptures, lighting installations and commissions.

In class, we will explore contemporary basketry techniques and learn about fibres suitable for weaving. The workshop format embraces the ancient magic of a creative circle and making by hand.

Included in the class fee are all the materials you will need, relevant notes and tools. Most often this is hand-dyed rattan core, seagrass or raffia to form the structure of the baskets and foraged materials to ‘fill’ or decorate the baskets. Attendees are encouraged to bring treasures from their own collecting and recycling is always a good thing!

In the fish-trap style class students will choose from naturally dyed rattan to create a fish-trap inspired sculptural basket with open weave or windowpane twining. The class will start with string making or ‘cordage’ by hand from leaves or raffia which can then be used to hang their fish trap style basket.

Morning Tea & Lunch provided by Martin Boetz.
